Three Years Ago, Today

As we work our way through the harvest season, Facebook decided to serve up to me a reminder of just how much has changed for me over the last few years. Since their algorithm’s nudge aligns with a lot of things I have been thinking about over the last few weeks, it seemed good to reflect on inner alignment and dharma. So I wrote a blog post about it, because it was clearly going to run on a lot longer than I really like to put in these emails. The capsule summary is also fairly simple, really almost a cliche: the yoga teacher training that I started three years ago today, changed my life.

Now I’ve been through a fair bit and had a fair few life-changing moments (maybe for me “life-changing” actually changes nothing), but YTT was different. It came at the end of a long process of shedding my ideas about about identity and frankly I was a little reluctant and had to be pushed by my teachers. But the act of committing to the process brought my inner and outer worlds into alignment, and that has made a huge difference to how I experience every day-to-day-to-minute moment.

One of the goals for my first urban retreat was to provide people with a taste of what teacher training feels like, but in a format that is friendly to living a “normal life”. Because real yoga provides tools to use every day, not just a way to learn acrobatic and contortionist tricks (even if they are fun and feel good). So if you have ever thought about teaching yoga, this weekend is meant as a taster for you. And if you’ve ever wondered how to bring that good feeling you get after practice into progressively more of your day-to-day experience, this bank “holiday” is also meant for you. We will pick up the ancient tools and dive deep into the experience of yogis past and present.

I’m not saying it will be life-changing, but hopefully we will find a little better alignment between our inner and outer lives. And we will definitely play with tools from the inner yoga practice. You can book right now through Hot Yoga Dublin’s event booking page.

Namaste.

P.S. It took a little longer to write all of this than I thought, but it really did start on the three-year anniversary of my YTT. And I meant to write about the changes to my class schedule, but then Facebook decided to put that giant durian picture in my face and I had to talk about YTT. One thing led to another and here you have it. The next newsletter will talk about that, but if you really want to know, my schedule is always available.
