And the World Reboots

Wow, after last year’s running to stand still, this year is rocking by so fast! I can’t believe it’s June already. During the first quarter I decided that after all of ... the Great Unpleasantness, I really needed some time with my teachers. In any case, I do that in most years, and with the extra stress of Covid, I needed someone else to hold space for me. I guess I was in sync with the Universe for a change, because both of my primary teachers started programs that seemed like they would fit in with quarantine life. So I’ve been quite busy as a student of yoga, but also distracted by my own inner work that has been on hold for the last year-and-a-bit.

This means that all of my great plans for the year need some serious revision. That’s OK. We’ve all been in this place for a while now. So I’m writing everyone to let you know how things are shaping up, as we all begin our journey back towards “normal”.

Yoga In the Park

First off, Hot Yoga Dublin & Yoga Next Door are organizing an expanded version of their annual summertime Yoga In the Park classes. These are held in the gardens at Malahide castle. Generally, some fraction of the proceeds goes off to charity, and I know that so far this year several thousand euro were sent to Covid relief in India because things have been so awful there.

I do not have a set schedule with Yoga In the Park, but I am being asked to teach some of the weekend morning classes. I will next be there on Saturday, 19 June (that’s this Saturday!), so check in quick, if you want to get some tickets.

Private Lessons

I am due for a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine around 22 June. Under the current quarantine rules, that means that I am clear to visit people in their homes. I felt that some of you might like some help getting your practice re-started, even if you weren’t feeling entirely comfortable coming in to studio. So, for at least the remainder of the summer, I will be offering private lessons at a reduced price to interested students.

If this speaks to you, please contact me directly. Private lessons are very flexible and I will work with you to put together a program that meets your desire. We can cover pretty much anything called “yoga”, including Asana, Pranayama, Mantra, Meditation, and various philosophical topics around both classical and tantric texts.

Current Classes

I am currently teaching two classes at Hot Yoga Dublin & Yoga Next Door; Thurday night Candlelight Yin, from 1930-2040, and Sunday night Candlelight Flow from 1930-2100. Right now these classes are being offered both online and in the very socially distanced “Earth” studio at Hot Yoga Dublin & Yoga Next Door. I’d love to see you there, one way or the other. Both of these classes are very meditative and designed to bring you just a little deeper knowledge of your self in each class.

The Yoga Hub have not yet re-opened, but they have notified their teachers that studio classes are being planned to re-start in early July. I have made myself available to teach at their Swords, Camden, and Dalkey (yes, that’s for all of you who used to practice with me at CLonlea Yoga Studios). If you want to see me in a particular place & time, I know that the management at The Yoga Hub genuinely respect requests and try to get teachers in to meet students’ interest – so please do send them an email.

Yoga Teacher Training

This fall I will be assisting Hot Yoga Dublin & Yoga Next Door with their 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program. I have been asked to cover the 30 hours of philosophy content, and we are discussing other areas of the curriculum as well. If this is interesting to you in any way, please contact either myself or the studio directly. In particular, the philosophy material is easily adapted to a workshop format, and I may be able to spin it off into a stand-alone module.

Finally

Whew! that was a long list! I guess after a year if sitting at idle, a busy second half of 2021, is kind of reasonable. I’ve been thinking abotu everyone while we have been waiting for oru next season of growth and expansion. It’s finally starting to feel like it might really be here.

Have a really great summer.
