We Who Hold Up the Sky

we who hold up the sky
give thanks to the moon
however she shows up

to help us hold up the sky
until we see the dawn
wake the kids and dog
shuffle off to the daily slog

we who hold up the sky
where they do ride
great light and small
and some we can’t even see
at all at all at all

we who hold up the sky
look down at the day
ready to run away
on dreams and drum beams
and mad men marching
all in a row

we who hold up the sky
just don’t know
who will come

who will go and not come back
at all at all at all

who will hold up the sky
and who will fall
